Hi, I’m Angela Denly and here is where you can find out ALL about me. Even the stuff you probably didn’t want to know.
My professional history
I was one of those kids that didn’t really know what they wanted to do in life, but I knew that I wanted to do something to do with the written word. That desire took me on a bit of a roundabout journey to where I am today – writing copy for small businesses!
Straight from school I started a Bachelor of Education but quickly realised that teaching wasn’t going to be the path for me, and instead went to TAFE to learn to type while I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I then went on to work for Surf Life Saving NSW for several years, starting as the receptionist and quickly becoming the office manager. In this role I helped to coordinate major events and written publications including press releases, sponsorship proposals and annual reports. Realising that there was a career path in business communications, I did a TAFE course in public relations and marketing, then proceeded to apply as a mature-age student (at the grand old age of 21!) for the Bachelor of Arts in Public Communication at UTS – and was happily accepted.
As part of my degree, I did an internship at AUGUST.ONE Communications (now part of Text 100) and as a result was offered my first full time role in public relations. I spent 9 happy years at Text 100 working on major technology, financial services and NFP brands before the birth of my first daughter.
Finding that balancing motherhood and public relations consulting wasn’t allowing me to be my best in either role, I left Text 100 to complete a Graduate Diploma in Professional Writing and Publishing from Curtin University via distance education. I completed this course during my pregnancy with my second daughter and the first two years of her life.
Since 2014, I’ve been combining my love of writing, marketing and smart communications strategies for small businesses. It’s the perfect role that allows me to be constantly learning about new businesses and industries and using those insights to create clever copy that helps my clients drive their businesses forward. I’d love to hear from you about how I could help your business soar.
The fun details
Of course, all work and no play makes Ange a dull girl! So here’s some fun facts to help you get a better feel for who I am and if we’d work well together!
- I’m a mum to two feisty and hilarious girls
- My husband is from the UK and wasn’t scared off by me telling him off for not using an indicator within 5 minutes of picking me up for our first date. He does still complain about being told what to do though #whinger
- I love a good cup of tea
- I love to cook (and eat!) but I’m a terrible housekeeper
- I love lifting weights and boxing, but hate running
- There is no greater joy in life than a good book
- I’m not sure if I could live away from the ocean – even if I don’t go every day, I like to know that the option is there
So, that’s me in a nutshell. If you think I might be the kind of copywriter you could connect with, get in touch. I’d love to hear more about your project.
